12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous

This material has been designed to introduce you to some of the aspects of the program and Fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous as well as to provide an aid to beginning and maintaining a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in a long-term setting.

0
Step One
We admitted that we were powerless over our
addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
0
Step Two
We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
0
Step Three
We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
0
Step Four
We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
0
Step Five
We admitted that we were powerless over our
addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
0
Step Six
We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
0
Step Seven
We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
0
Step Eight
We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and
became willing to make amends to them all.
0
Step Nine
We made direct amends to such people wherever
possible, except when to do so would injure them
or others.
0
Step Ten
We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
0
Step Eleven
We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
0
Step Twelve
Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these
steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Well it’s simple really. The deal is, you must stay sober and work a program of recovery. If you get drunk or use illicit substances, you will be asked to leave House of Oaks with immediate effect.

You are simply sharing a living space with other recovering people. You are essentially renting a room from a landlord and part of your lease agreement is to stay clean.

If you want to maintain independence but stay in the comfort with all bills paid, House of Oaks is an excellent choice.

When it comes to sober houses, they are not all created equal. Many sober houses allow continual relapse, unruly behaviour and rule breaking so long as you continue to pay rent. This is lovingly referred to as a “flop house”. Essentially, flop houses provide a safe harbour for individuals who are actively using illicit substances and engaging in other negative behaviours.

They are typically run-down and poorly cared for, creating a dangerous environment for recovering people. Ultimately, it’s not conducive to spiritual and emotional growth.

Before moving into a sober house blindly, always scope it out first. Make sure that the residents are actively working in recovery. Also, as much as you may not like it, make sure that the rules are strictly enforced. Proper structure and a peaceful, therapeutic environment is crucial in early recovery.

While all people need to deal with stress, people in recovery face more challenges in managing stress without succumbing to negative behaviours. For this reason, we have created a living space that is conducive to stress relief. We do not overcrowd rooms and we have a strict code of conduct that governs the house and protects all residents’ privacy, security and safety. Our house is spacious and luxurious so you will have the option of having your own private or sharing room at a nominal fee (depending on availability). The property is also Eskom independent (Solar Back-up) and boasts a swimming pool, boma and high-speed Wi-Fi. In addition, there is also two fully furnished kitchen, a fully furnished living room, a big beautiful garden, and a safe place to park your car.
